Is there any other area of the feet or legs that seems not quite right? Have you had any lower back discomfort or any reason that you could have pulled the lower back?

The sensory nerves that feed into the bottoms of the feet come off the spinal cord in the lower lumbar area of the back (the "small" of the back as some call it!). But they also feed other areas as well, so if this is the cause and you have other areas that are not quite normal it would likely be the inside side of the big toe, the next 3 toes, but not necessarily the small toe, the outside of the hips and down the outside of the shin, calf areas, excluding the ankle!

I would suggest that you see the doc for a referral if you need one for a neurologist or neurosurgeon and a MRI or CAT scan of the lower back.
