yes, but the xray shows nothing on the bone. I have an old history of hodgkins diease.

Optional Information:
Female , Age: 46

Already Tried:
going to the dr, & orthopedic doctor who wanted to operate, but I requested a catscan first. The lump has been there for over 5 months and I did not hurt my leg. My skin is discolored where the limp is.

Reply to Jon Fay's Post: The ortho said it was a hard fibrous mass under the skin. Looking at the xray, he states nothing showed on the xray. I requested a catscan which I will have this week. I had Hodkins in 1979, chemo & radiation and have been in full remisson since. The lump is about 1" going down my leg under the knee just next to the bone. The width of the lump is about two" going across my leg. Almost feels like two lumps connected. I recently had blood test in march and guess the cbc came out good as the dr never called back. It is hard & tender at the touch & sometimes when I walk.

These sorts of solitary, fibrous tumors are not unheard of, but are also not terribly common. They can appear after trauma (which didn't happen with you), but can also appear without any sort of stimuli or trigger. They can also be painful and tender as you report, some of which is due to the pressure that these can place on the surrounding tissues.

Sometimes fibrous tumors can be malignant, but since there was no local invasion or invasion into the nearby bone noticed on these scans, and since your orthopedist was not concerned, then this is reassuring. When it is removed, it will probably be sent to a pathologist who will examine it thoroughly and classify it. So it just sounds potentially like a benign fibrous tumor.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any further questions - I'm more than happy to help. Take care - Dr. Fay
