my hip pain

I have had very severe pain-sharp/shooting, stabbing pain-in my left hip joint area, in my left rear and going down my leg making my leg feel tingling. The pain comes on at random times, taking my pants off, standing, walking, rolling over, sitting, bending over.
It is painful to the touch in the hip are & rear. I had an MRI of my lumbar back-no herniated disk- they said a small cyst was seen on the peri sacral...but they were not concerned. What could be causing this? Help please.
