Could the quote read: Of shoes and ships and sailing wax...
This comes from The Walrus And The Carpenter
a poem published in "Through the Looking Glass" by Lewis Carroll.
"'The time has come,' The Walrus said, 'to talk of many things; Of shoes and ships and sailing wax, Of cabbages and kings, And why the sea is boiling hot- And whether pigs have wings!'" -Lewis Caroll
There is also a book called: Shoes and Ships and Sealing Wax by Ethel Glere Chamberlain
Hugh Lofting's The Voyages of Dr. Dolittle, may have contained the quote but I could not find it in my copy.
