In general, hypermobility (excess of movement) at C4-C5 is a compensatory reaction to loss of movement (hypomobility) at another adjacent level e.g. at the C3 or C6 level. Also, hypermobility in the C4-C5 level can cause increase in disc annulus and cortical bone stress which can lead to osteophyte (bone spur) formation.
