Question

every summer suffers w/red,peeling feet w/cuts

Sent to Health Experts July 26, 2006 8:07 a.m.

My son is 9 years old and every summer suffers with feet problems. He has red, peeling feet(not btw. the toes). Then b/c they are so inflamed and sensitive, he gets cuts from walking on the cement or the bottom of a cement pool. I've been to a few dermatologists, nothing has really worked. Last one said it appears that he's allergic to his own sweat(on his feet). I agree w/that b/c this condition only happens in the very warm weather. What can i put on his feet to try and stop this?

Optional Information:
Male , Age: 9

Already Tried:
aquaphor, vitamin e, dr.scholls's foot powder, prescription creams(forget what they were). taped feet w/ a prescription medicine on the tape.

You should try some Gold Bond medicated powder to see if this will work better then the Dr. Scholl's foot powder, and also in the evenings use some Neosporin on them regularly to see if this will helpwith the breakouts he is suffering from. If the prescription creams were not helpful then he may have to use some wet/dry slippers on his feet when he is swimming or on the cement or concrete to help with this as well.

Wow that is bad, have you tried the wet/dry slippers to see if this would be a help and some balming lotion, like horse and mane, which is like a thicker, more potent balming lotion that can help to sooth the feet for longer amounts of time. Also I would suggest an anti-fungal as this would also help with the inflammation and peeling as well.

When would i use the antifungal and the horse and mane? antifungal at night,in the morning? or do i layer the two? I'm not sure i agree w/the antifungal, b/c i've had 2 doctors say that it's not a fungus b/c it's not btw. the toes and not itchy. How do you respond to that. ?

In my opinion, and based on your short history, your child is suffering from Eczema of the feet. He would need, besides emollients, topical steroids, and in very severe stages, oral steroids as well.
You may check out this site for some information, and also contact your dermatologist again to ask him/her about eczema and whether to use steroids.
