High potassium levels, Hyperkalemia, has a few known causes. These include:

  • Medications, such as certain inhibitors
  • Addison's disease (Hormone deficiency)
  • Severe injury
  • Burns
  • And, of course, excessive amounts of potassium intake

Also, please make sure that a second blood sample is done to ensure accuracy of the first. Often, the sample is damaged ruptured cells in the sample. This can give false readings.
