I'm 59 years old (post menopausal!) and have had sore,

Sent to Health Experts August 07, 2006 5:12 p.m.

I'm 59 years old (post menopausal!) and have had sore, tender, slightly enlarged breasts for about 2 months. They feel like they used to right before and at the start of my period. I've been told that I have fibrous breast tissue -- more so on the left side, which is also the more tender breast. Both, however, are sore. I am not on any new medications. I do take a low dose of Prempro but I have been on that for 9 years. I had a mammogram last December which didn't indicate any problems. What's going on???

Hi

Something else could be going on here.

Have you had any discharge from your nipples?

Hi

That's good.

You are describing mastalgia ( sore breasts).

There are several possible causes including your Prempro - even though you have been on it for 9 years.

Other causes - depend on weather the pain is cyclical or not. However given that you are on continous combined HRT it is not possible therefore to figure out if your pain is indeed cyclical.

I suspect that the best option for you may be to stop your HRT ( age 59 this is a good idea anyway) and see what happens to your pain.
You would of course need to discuss this with your own Dr in advance.

Hope this helps a bit.
