Hello,
TIAs are Transient Ischaemic Attacks. The blood supply to one part of the brain is suddenly decreased and the person gets confused and can have seizures and also lose consciousness.
Strokes are similar but the blood supply to one part of the brain stops completely. This is a dangerous situation and needs immediate treatment.
Epilepsy is a condition where the electrical signals from one part of the brain becomes odd and uncontrollable, leading to seizures.
If your husband had similar seizures when he was 16, then it is probable that he is suffering from epilepsy. It can recur after stopping for a few years. Also the fact that he is confused after the seizures is a strong indication of epileptic seizures. This is a treatable condition and the person can lead a perfectly normal life with medicines.
He needs to be examined and special investigations like EEg, EMG needs to be carried out for a complete diagnosis.
I hope this helps.
