In one of my eyes, my left eye, there is a bright spot

In one of my eyes, my left eye, there is a bright spot in the center of my vision. I don't see it normally, but when I close my right eye, I see a small bright spot (similar to type of spot you see after looking into a bright light for a few moments) with my left eye. The size is... say... if I were looking at a newspaper at normal distance, and was looking at a single letter (character) on the paper, it would completely cover that letter, and most of the character to the right and left of it... I can't see past it. Do you know what could cause this?
