My 80 year old mother-in-law is having difficulty walking- she tends to lean to the left as she walks and has less ability to move when she gets tired, she is like a car severly out of alinement. She sleeps a lot and has little energy. Her feet and ankles are swelling, and mostly her left. This just started. She now has fears of traveling up mountains. She has lived the last 20 years in the Mtns. of NC and an advid walker less than 10 years ago. She hiked up steep inclines What could be going on. She has high BP and that is the only pill she takes a day. The dr. thinks a small stroke in the past but lab test or no other test did he order?

Hello and Welcome to Just Answer,

How long ago has it been since she had any tests done? Is she really confused? If she is, is this a normal thing? If not, how long has this been going on? Have you taken her blood pressure? It does sound like a mini stroke, but other things could be going on. What about her urine. Does it have a strong odor to it? Did she suddenly become incontinent or unable to control her bladder? Does she sit in a chair most of the day? Is she drinking plenty of fluids? I was a Director of Nurses in Nursing Homes for many years and have seen this type of thing. I am just needing to get more information, so I can figure out what is going on.

Thank you,
Pam Russell Rn
