My ankles and calves have been swelling for months, ...

My ankles and calves have been swelling for months, but now the pain seems to be getting worse. They swell if I'm sitting or standing. Lying down and elevating dosen't help anymore. The, I guess it's a nerve, right behind the ankle bone is always swollen, it's the size of a golf ball. What is causing this problem? Please Help. Ruby
