Question

My sister, age 66, has just been diagnosed as having MS.

Sent to Health Experts August 27, 2006 9:48 a.m.

My sister, age 66, has just been diagnosed as having MS. Everything I have ever read about the disease, says the onset is between the ages of 20 and 40. Does this mean she has had MS for that many years, and it has been undignosed, or could the results of the spinal tap be wrong?
Thank you!

She may have had it for many years. It is also a possibility she may have developped the disease after age 40.

Diagnosis are based on the findings other than spinal tap such as physical exam, history and radiologic imaging.
