my son is 34 yrs old obese man weighing about 400 lbs. this

my son is 34 yrs old obese man weighing about 400 lbs. this past week he had bad muscle cramps in his sides in the rib cage area. then last night he had terrible leg pain in the calf area,not muscle cramps but throbbing which the pain became real intense and he hardly couldn't stand it. could you give me and idea of what area to look at to possibly see what he has . he is going on 08/31/06 to a surgeon to talk to ,to have one of those band surgeries done. please give me an answer so he will know what to tell the doctor. thank you for your time and answers.

throbbing leg pain in the calf area,not muscle cramps but intense pain and keeps on getting intense and he can hardly stand it.
he has no numbness or tingling just throbbing. and what caused the muscle cramps in his side area around the rib cage area.

Any swollen veins?

Any redness in calf area?

Is this unilateral?

Any associated pain in lower back?

Hello

Calf pain can be due to various reasons:

One of the commonest causes is muscle cramps.Calf pain may actually be referred pain. In this situation the underlying problem can be with the knee, hip, or back. Musclestiffness and strains will also cause calf pain.

Other possible causes include DVT( Deep venous thrombosis).
