HPV testing is possible with a pap smear when you use the Thin-Prep method.
At the earliest stages you may find no changes on a traditional pap smear. If you are infected with one of the strain associated with cervical cancer, a percentage of those women would eventually start to show abnormal cells - the precancerous changes which can be treated to prevent the development of true cervical cancer.
