my boyfriend has been experienceing black outs recently.

my boyfriend has been experienceing black outs recently. there is no apparent pattern as to when they occur other than they seem to happen when he stands up from a sitting/laying/kneeling position. there have been no changes in his diet or activitities or anything else since this began. what could possibly be the cause of his black outs and should he see someone immediatley?
