Question

laparoscopy and gas

Sent to Health Experts September 07, 2006 9:15 p.m.

I had a laparoscopy done two days ago and can still feel the gas that was put into me. I'm very bloated and it is really uncomfortable. Is this pretty normal and is there anything I can do to help it come out. Thank you.

Hello,

It is very common. Pain in the right shoulder and upper right abdomen can last 24 to 72 hours, from gas used to inflate the abdomen during surgery. It may last as long as a week.

It is best to walk around as much as you can tolerate, this helps a lot to get rid of the trapped gas.
