I coach a 19 year old college, female athlete who runs cross country and plays basketball. Our gym is not air conditioned, so on hot days the gym can be anywhere from 80-90+ degrees. When the athlete is in the gym playing, she sweats a lot and does not have any trouble with getting overheated.
However, on an 83 degree day, when she runs outside, she does not sweat at all and can overheat rather quickly. In fact, she rarely sweats when she is doing things outside. Apparently, her mother and grandmother have also had trouble being outside in the heat.
What causes this problem for this athlete? She is very frustrated and concerned about her well-being.
