Question

Why would taking a multi vitamin make you bleed from your rectum?

Sent to Health Experts September 29, 2006 10:10 p.m.

My son is 23 years old and is 6'4" about 275lbs. he has played football all his life so he is physically fit. For the past few years he told me whenever he starts taking vitamins he starts to bleed out of his rectum, alot, like a cup at a time. Of course I was horrified and told him to see a doctor. He says he doesnt experience any pain but of course this is a bit disturbing. He used to think it was just from working out so hard and that maybe it was hemoroids, but he is now graduated and not playing sports anymore. So when this happened again just recently he linked it to starting to take vitamins again.

Hello,

I can not make the connection between the rectal bleeding and the vitamins as this is a bit unusual.
In any event, he needs to be evaluated by a colorectal specialist for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan.

He may have an anal fissure, hemorrhoids, diverticular disease or colon polyp.

Here is some info, let me know if you have questions.
