Drugs and the mind

Sent to Health Experts September 30 04:42 PM

As everyone knows, drugs cause an effect on the mind (A high). Since that effect is basically generated by the brain, is it possible to convince yourself that you are high without drugs? I've read about monks who can enter deep meditative states and even lower their heat rate through mere thought alone, so it at least seems probable. I know certain chemicals are released by the brain that cause these effects, therefore, it appears one could consciously will that process to occur without harmful drugs.

Yes, this is possible by the release of endorphines within the brain. Person's are able to "train" themselves to do this but not with the same effect of an illegal drug "high"

Reply to 4ren6's Post: Thank you very much for your quick response. So, let me get this straight. The high caused by narcotics effects our endorphins? And endorphins can be manipulated consciously?

Yes they can be. Certain thought will actually release these and produce a pleasant feeling or mood. But some people can indeed concentrate well enough to release these in greater amounts.
