My 82 year old mother has CHF and COPD. Her oxygen level is 91. She has edema and the swelling does not go down even though she is on Lasix. I know that drs can't give a patient too much Lasix. Does this mean that she is probabloy close to end stage for CHF?

Reply to 4ren6's Post: she has dementia (for the last 8 years or so) and is coherent about 30% of the time. She is in a nursing home.

Reply to 4ren6's Post: She is awake about 8 hours in the day. Yes, she is in a nursing home. Her other ailments include a broken hip in early August. She is somewhat compliant in PT but cannot walk. She can stand. But that is about it.

Based on what your stating I would by no means consider her at the end stage's of CHF. She is low on saturation of O2 but It can go lower. The swelling of the legs can also be controlled with stockings to support the arteries and reduce swelling. If she were in the end stages of CHF she would be bed ridden more then she is and not able to do the things that your listing above. She very well may surprise you and go on for several more years but no she is not at the end stage by no means. I strongly urge you to speak with her doctors and nursing staff as they know when the time is near. Let me know if you need further assistance on this.
