Hi,

I am sorry to say that with his results he has been exposed recently to the herpes virus. The chances of you exposing him to the virus is slim though if you also have herpes then this is a good indication that it was transferred from you though non sexual contact such as possible contamination though clothing, towels etc.

How is this type of virus exposed via sexual contact or other sources.

Hi,

Herpes 1 is much more common then 2 and generally infects the mouth or lip area. Unlike the type 2 which generally infects the genital area. Though please understand both can be transmitted to the other area.

Most commonly it is spread though oral sex, kissing, drinking after some one else. Though it can also be spread though the use of towels tooth brushes etc.

I am including a site with a very though explanation of both strands so you can better familiarize yourself with it.

Herpes HSV-1 & HSV-2

Hi,

Anytime a partner is exposed it is recommend to be tested. Since you have not had sexual relations with him in a year I would be surprised if you tested positive, but since you live in the same household most doctors would recommend you be tested to be on the safe side.

I think it is a more personal choice, if you are concerned then defiantly get tested.
