Hello,

I believe that the initial itch was probably due to an insect bite, but scratching put pressure on the superficial blood vessels of the skin and ruptured them. The blood leaking out of the vessels under the skin has caused the bruise.

It takes about 7 days for a bruise to heal. The blood will slowly get reabsorbed into the tissues. To decrease the tenderness, you cna apply ice-packs over it 4 times daily. But the tenderness will go away completely only after the blood has been reabsorbed in about 7 days and whatever mild tissue damage that has occured dute to the scratching has healed. If the skin is broken, please apply Bacitracin ointment to prevent infection.

There is really nothing more that you can do at the moment except wait and see. if the tenderness is very severe, you can take a Motrin 500 mg.

I hope this helps.
