What does it mean when a woman is spotting?

I ended my period 4 days ago and it was a normal period, however, I spotted a little bit before my period and now I started spotting this morning. I've never really spotted before and it's not very heavy, just a little bit. I'm just not sure why this has happened 4 days after I ended my cycle.
