Question

Will this hearing problem correct itself in time?

Sent to Health Experts October 14, 2006 10:06 a.m.

While changing a tire, it blew up and now my husband cannot hear out of his right ear. He has had hearing loss in his left ear since the war. Now he is worried that something has shattered. I have encouraged him to see a DR, but he refuses saying nothing can be done anyway. Will this condition take care of itself? Thank you, Linda Thompson

ACCEPTED Check Mark

He needs to see a physician.

He could have caused substantial damage to his ear drum, and in some instances this can be repaired. The longer he waits, however, the lower the chances are that this can potentially be treated successfully. But if he has hearing loss due to trauma, then this will generally not heal on its own.

So encourage him to see his physician!

Hope this helps - Dr. Fay
