hi i had total knee replacement 24 jan 06 the swelling has all but gone now but it is uncomfortable to walk because the knee is LOOSE i can shake my knee and people eithin earshot can actually hear it making a noise when i walk it feels likethere is an inch of play between the two leg bones my surgeon says itll be fine when all the ligaments and tendons tighten up. i feel like he is just saying that.what do you think? glynn.

I think you have to get a second opinion from another orthopedist, and preferably one who specializes in total joint replacements. If you can audibly hear the knee making noise, and it feels terribly unstable, and your surgeon says everything is as it should be, I think you could benefit from a second opinion. Nearing 4 months post-operatively, you are probably using the joint, and you have probably completed a fair amount of physical therapy and rehab, so I would think that it would be a little unusual for your new joint to still be so unstable at this point in time. Better to see a second orthopedist, and have them evaluate this in person, and get their opinion on whether or not this is a normal post-operative course. Sometimes it can be hard for a physician to accept the limitations of his (or her) own work.
