Yes, I believe that a second opinion is always in order when there is a serious illness such as this. And before starting such a serious treatment. It will give you peace of mind as well, knowing she is getting the best possible treatment.

Hi Kerry, sorry for the delay, but i forgot my password and couldn't login. My gosh, this is hard. Not only am i a nurse, my mom sees the MD i work for :( we've found out that the tumor is a stage 3 with some node/chest wall involvement. 2 of my siblings feel the second opinion would inform them if surgery could be done. my mom starts chemo this thurs. i did get her into the UW hosp oncology dept with an onc. surgeon. hopefully that will help. thank you for your answer.     christa

ACCEPTED Check Mark

You are very welcome. And please don't feel bad for getting a second opinion. Your MD should understand that too. It is perfectly normal and acceptable, and no feelings should be hurt etc.

My heart goes out to you. Your mom is lucky to have you for a daughter. I can tell she will get much needed support through out her illness.

Your mom and family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
