She has had three failed IVF. she has a 3 1/2 year old and has been trying ever since the 3 1/2 year old was born. I suspect she does not make a good quality egg. All of the IVF had implantation of just 1 egg. I suspect it was the best of the lot. She has never had a retrevail of more than 4 eggs. Good evening Customer (name blocked for privacy), thank you for trusting us with your question. IVF can be a trying and lengthy experience. I have seen people drain their finances, wreck their marriage and ruin their health over the issue. You have every reason to feel concern for your (friend, daughter...?), and looking for information is an excellent start.

A new, fresh opinion is an excellent idea. Even if her current clinic is top notch, a second opinion is never wasted. An objectice overview may provide answers. If you feel she will resist admitting defeat, or concerned she is becomming obsessed, you may choose to withold this opinion until the second opinion is in play. Approach this as a positive step towrds success, not a possible "last step" and she will be more receptive.

A good place to find a referral to a Doctor/Clinic in your area is:

Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology
http://www.sart.org/
The Society of Reproductive Surgeons
http://www.reprodsurgery.org/

Good luck to you both, I hope this has helped.

After reviewing Clinics within 50 miles of your zip code, according to their sucess rate on 40+ year old women I narrowed it down to

Offices for Fertility & Reproductive Medicine PC
51 East 67th Street
New York, NY 10021
Cecilia Schmidt-Sarosi, M.D.
212-535-5350
http://www.ofrm.com
info@ofrm.com
They place their 2003 live birth/transfer rate for women 40-42 at %50. They had a higher than average retrieval success rate as well.

Reproductive Medicine Associates of New York, LLP
635 Madison Avenue, 10th FLoor
New York, NY   10022
Alan B. Copperman, M.D.
Lawrence Grunfeld, M.D.
Marlena J. Duke, M Sc, ELD

This clinic averaged 42% live birth/transfer ration. Interestingly their age category was 40-48, (vs. 40-42). This would raise their success rate for the 40-42 range significantly.

Of the hundreds of clinics in your area, I could only research several dozen, and the data can be altered by factors such as: high drop out rates, low patient numbers/transfer attempts etc, I ruled out any clinic reporting stats based on a very small sample, or with other obvious deviations.

Your Daughters clinic: The Center for Reproductive Medicine and Infertility, reported live birth ratios at 30.4% for ages 37-40.

I am sorry to hear about the struggle your daughter has faced. Although she claims to have given up, she may take comfort in seeking one final opinion, before resigning completely. Whatever her decision, or the outcome, I wish you all peace of mind, and well being. I hope this was a more specific answer to your question, and thank you for giving me a chance to help.
