Hi, I fell in March of this year, before the fall I had this pain before and it would go away after a day or so. Since the fall its been pretty constant. I went to a Doctor several months ago, and he said that I had torn the cartilage of 2 ribs that lay on each side of the central nerve. The cartilage was torn at the breast bone. I had told him when I raise my right arm or move it and my body as cooking or cleaning, curling my hair would make it flare up and I would spend the rest of the day on a heating pad trying to get the pain to ease up. The heat or going to bed is the only things that will help the pain. Pain meds don't touch it. He told me I would have been better off if I had broken the ribs, they would heal faster. I just told me it would take a long time to heal. Its been 6mo, I can't hardly do anything, or I am in pain. Do you know of anything I can do to help this at home, is there anything or procedure that will help this? I don't think I can live like this the rest of my life, I am 48 yrs old, I hope I have a long way to go. Please let me know if anything that can be done.
Thank you,
C Boone

Hi,
The kind of injury you are describing is due to separation of the costochondral junction of the rib. This injury should also heal by maximum 12 weeks i.e. 3 months. 6 months is a long time for the healing not to have completed. I would advise you to take a second opinion to rule out some other accompanying problem because it should not take this much time to heal.
