sores and bumps all over entire body

Sent to Health Experts August 16 09:58 PM

I really need help.I am a 55 year old man my name is Alvin. About 1 1/2 years ago I got shingles. Then started getting bumps all over my body. My neck groin area back of my buttocks inner thighs back of my arms top of my head in my hair and forehead. I still as of this day still have these bumps which come up and fill with a clear liquid. I have been to a dermatoligists which took and froze and sent off for biopsy and nothing was clearly in the liquid. I also about 2 months after this started got bit by a black widow spider went to the doctor and received a steroid shot. which made the bumps claer up only for a few days. I've taken and changed by soap, laundry detergent to dreft. I received a cortizone shot which also made them quit itching for only 2 days and then came right back. I've taken and used all kinds of creams lotions ointments cingalair, penicillin, but nothing is killing these bumps. I have to confess that as these bumps arise I can not stand the pain and have to pop them to relieve the pressure which makes them bleed and then scab up which I in turn peel the scab off and have scars all over my body. Is there just anything you can tell me about this? Now this one country doctor wants me to see an allergists dr ofr this. I have taken so many drugs but nothing is helping .... can you suggest anything?

Reply to Pamela's Post: The medicine that the dr put me on was penicillin and I also took prednisone tablets usp5mg, and took this along with the singulair tab 10mg, but today I went to the doctor and he prescribe DOXYCYCLIN HYC CAP 100 MG. WHICH i WILL start today which shows for me to take one capsule 2 x per day. I hope this will help you to understand what drugs I am currently taking.

Alvin,

You've got to be very frustrated! Most of all you must be in some terrific pain! You sure have had an outbreak of those blisters all over your body. Let's see if I can point you in the right direction.

Shingles, as you know, are fluid filled blisters that itch, and cause alot of pain. They are recurring and they generally follow a "nerve root".

How Is Shingles Treated?

Treatment for shingles includes antiviral drugs, steroids, antidepressants, anticonvulsants, and topical agents. Sometimes additional medicines, like ibuprofen, may be needed to help control the pain.

The severity and duration of an attack of shingles can be significantly reduced by immediate treatment with the antiviral drugs Zovirax, Valtrex, or Famvir. These drugs may also help stave off the painful after-effects of shingles, a condition known as postherpetic neuralgia.

The use of capsacin topical cream rubbed on the skin will also help to relieve the discomfort.

There also is, or soon will be a shot that will prevent future recurrence. You would have to talk to your doctor to see if that is appropriate for you.

Based on your symptoms, I'm not sure why the dermatologist has not treated you for shingles. I find it interesting that when you had received an injection of cortisone for the spider bite, which also cleared your blisters, I'm not sure why the doctor didn't put you on a course of Prednisone or maintain you on a low dose of prednisone once the blisters cleared.

I hope that I have been helpful to you and pointed you in a direction that will help get this resolved for you. I definitely would visit with your physician again...or try a different dermatologist and see if the above suggestions wouldn't be appropriate for you.

Good luck to you and Vicki...take care..it has been a pleasure.

Reply to Pamela's Post: The one thing that all of the Dr.'s agree on is that I don't have shingles because of the fact I have these blisters in places that I've been told that shingles only covers certain areas of the body and I have these blisters in areas around my waist, thighs, groin, knees, elbows, neck, under arms, all through my scalp, from top to bottom of the crease of my buttocks. Yes they are very painful and once I've popped them the pain subsides. I've been put on a 12 day prednisone pack of which I'm almost done with it. What ever this STUFF is it seems to adapt to whatever medicine I'm taking. The steroid and cortosone shots only stopped these blisters for up to three days each time I was administered the shots, then the blisters come back with a vengence.

Reply to Pamela's Post: I have not been out of the country or handled any unusual chemicals. Is it possible to have shingles on both sides of the body? When this started out the bumps were the size of a quarter, then as time went on the bumps got smaller and smaller, and now they range in size from a small pimple to a bump half the size of a dime. I have never been clinicaly diagnosed with shingles although this seemed to mimick the disease.
