Sent to Health Experts May 24, 2006 2:12 p.m.

I had a sinus infection about 2 months ago. I had tremendous pressure in the top of my nose with NO congestion. My nose was fully clear. I took prednisone and an antibiotic and it went away. Now about 2 months later I get a pressure in my mid nose. It kind of comes and goes but has been hear now for a few days. There is NO congestion at all, just the pressure in my nose. Is this a sinus issue?? Do you have to have congestion to be a sinus issue? do you think the infection I had just did damage and this is the aftermath?? I am on nasonex no and have been for 4 weeks.

Hi Rocco,

Is there pain with the pressure?

Do you have pain in the upper teeth, and have you had a fever?

Lisa

I dont have pain. Its really just the pressure, in my mid-nose(again, there is no congestion at all) and yes when it is flaired up I wouldnt say there is pain in my upper teeth but I can definately feel it in my upper teeth. They become like sensitive a little.

Rocco, it sounds like you have another sinus infection or sinusitis. I was looking at some of your other questions, and I'm also thinking that you may have allergies. Have you ever been checked for allergies? They are finding that people who never had allergies before can develop them due to the higher rates of pollen and pollution in the air.

Environmental influences to look out for that can aggravate your sinuses and even bring on an attack of sinusitis, cigarette smoking, swimming (chlorine), diving, heat (dry air). Allergens that can trigger or cause sinusitis, mold, dust, dust mites, animal dander, pollen and certain foods, but you would need to be tested for these allergens to find out if they are the causes.

One sinus infection is normal, even a second one (reoccurring) can be someone normal, but after that your classed as acute sinusitis or reoccurring sinusitis. You can ask your doctor (if he hasn't already) to take blood to rule out other conditions associated with sinusitis, like cystic fibrosis and immune deficiency disorder and to take cultures to check for bacterial infection or fungal infection.

I hope this helped.

Warmly,

Lisa

I dont think it is infected cause its not nearly as bad as it was before. Is it common to have sinisitus, and infection or allergies without congestion?? I think it is allergies also, but could it be without the congestion??

No it isn't common but it happens. Some people do not develop congestion symptoms at first and some not at all. When you looked over the list of causes did anything ring a bell? I forgot to add ice cream to the list as well, many are convinced that eating it causes sinus infections.
