my uncle was in the hospital with the symptoms previously shared. he was admitted on 06.04.05 with the symptoms given earlier.   he was released on 06.07.05 and home at 4:00 p.m. shortly after midnight, he returned to the hospital as he was bleeding, week and passing out. arrived at the hospital at 2:30 am and was given fluid and additional pints of blood. at 9:15 am, he was having an EGD done. within minutes, he went into cardio arrrest. he was rushed to surgery where the surgeon repaired the artery around the stomach area in 3 places. he was then put on a ventilator and was clinically diagnosed as having hypoxic brain damage. i fell the drs did not do sufficient testing by way of MRI or a cat scan of the stomach area? should they not have known something was wrong when his hgb was not leveling out?

ACCEPTED Check Mark

if the hgb was still abnormal along with the blood in stool then it seems as though another form of testing should have been done rather than send him home to make sure the bleeding may have stopped on it's own. But that is what they may have thought as well since it said no active bleeding. Which if there was a pool of blood they may have figured it was still being digested. If he was still feeling bad (physically.. then yes, I would agree more testing should have been done) If there was no fresh blood when they did the visual that is why it may have appeared it has cleared up on it's own. Which then a possible MRI could have been done. If it was still showing fresh blood or if his hgb never went back to normal even exploratory surgery could have been done as well. But these are just basic views of now knowing all the facts between your uncle and the hospital/doctors. Now, I would seek out another opinion of a doctor and let him get a copy of the records to see exactly what happen. If you feel the whole situation was not dealt with appropriately you can also have a consult with a lawyer as well, which most are free.
