Question

my best friend has developed a severe phobia to driving ...

Sent to Health Experts December 06, 2005 1:04 p.m.

my best friend has developed a severe phobia to driving long distances. She has made one trip to see me from Jacksonville Fl to Port St. Lucie Fl it is a 4 hour trip for her. The trip here was wonderful..the trip home however was terrible..she didn't sleep well before she left as she is also an insomniac..and has no health insurance anymore. She does however still have some xanax. If she takes half of one..before her trip down...how long will it take to wear off. As when she arrives we would like to partake in some celebratory livations.

It will wear off within 4-6 hours if she only takes a half of a xanax. It really depends on her resistance level as some people can be effected for 8-12 hours but with taking only half a pill depending on the strength it should wear off by the time she arrives settles in and you actually leave to go out for the night.

I get from this from 4 to 12 hours so she is still petrified to even try the trip. I was hoping to try to get her to take half a xanax to calm her but she won't if she thinks she won't be able to enjoy a few beverages after she arrives. So I am stuck. I don't know what to do.
Overall I am not sure what to do with or for her..she used to drive big rigs for a living many years ago...and now she says she feels she will "die" when she drives. But she made the trip once..and I have her on the verge of making it again..I even bought her a cell phone so I could talk to her the entire way if need be and it helped. The xanax is 25mg.

That is the lowest form of xanax prescribed, she can read my post when she arrives, meantion this to her. I can understand how you feel and that was wonderful of you to buy her a cell phone to talk to her on the way. Make sure she uses the earset so she can concentrate better on the drive. But if she takes only half a pill, I live in Tampa, actually Hudson so know the amount of time involved in the travel and by the time she drives there, eats, showers, and dresses she will be fine.
