At night I wake up with really bad ear pain. The pain goes from my ear to the outside of my face. This only occurs on the right side of my face when I sleep at night. The pain is so bad some nights it brings tears to my eyes and in order to turn to the other side I have to put pressure on my ear or it just gets worse. Do you have any idea what may be causing this pain?? There is no pain during the day, only at night when I sleep. Thank you for your time.

Hi Dawn, have you been diagnoised with TMJ? it is temporal mandipal joint disorder. it occurs mostly at rest when the muscles are at rest. it can be extremly painful and the only thing that i have seen work is a muscle relaxer, for mild use try motrin, if it gets worse you will need a perscription for flexiril or valium. call your primary MD

hope i helped, cynthia RN
