Question

I have had a headache on the left side of my head ...

Sent to Health Experts June 19, 2006 4:07 p.m.

I have had a headache on the left side of my head since October, it feels like a hangover even thou I don't drink much, sometimes I drink one or two drinks on weekends. It comes and goes and feels like pressure is pushing into my head. I have had my eyes, sinus, a CAT scan and a MRI checked and my doctor still can't find nothing. Sometimes I get a piercing pain behind my left eye and I find it moving towards the back of the left side still. I haven't had a good nights sleep since it continues all night long. HELP!

Hi

Can I ask you a couple of questions.

Do you get attacks of pain?
How long do they last?
If you get attacks do they tend to be grouped together?
Di your eyes water/become blodshot when you have the pain?
Any visual disturbance at all?

Haveyou tried any meds?

every once in a while pain shoots through the back of my left eye, but it goes as quickly as it comes and my left eye does water some, not alot and then there are days that the pain just stays and slowly goes away then it comes again.

A few things spring to mind and should be considered.

(in no particular ordrer)

Cluster headache-lots of potential treatmnts , best to dicuss with your own physician.(more common in men)

Glaucoma- raised presure in the eyeball- get an optican to check your "IOP" ( intra-ocular presure.)

Temporal (giant cell) arteritis- inflammtion of the temporal artery (runs thru the temple)- need blood test by your Dr.

Neuralgia( trigeminal/5th cranial nerve)- again lots of good treatments available.( esp pregablin, new drug absolutely marvelous in the patients I have prescribed it to for facial pain.)

Chronic Pain Syndrome- if you have had pain sine last October then to a certain extent it is something you will have to put up with ,as any pain whatever the cause if it has been prsent for 6 months or more is very unlkely to disappear, ever. There are lots of treatments to minimise chronc pain whatever the cause.

Clearly your mormal scan provide a good deal of comfort in so much that you have nothing "horrible" going on.

Hope this helps a little.

Regards.
