CONITNOUS CHEST ACHE

Not sure whether too see a doctor; or how serious my condition is. I have had an ongoing dull ache in my sternum. Sometimes it is not there; but has been quite frequent; sometimes hurts more when i am lateral--right before I sleep or when I wake up.
