Sent to Health Experts August 20, 2006 12:17 p.m.

hello--- in July of 2004, I started having a sleeping problem. My doctor gave me sleeping pills and now I can sleep. I am not asking a question about sleep. My problem is the drugs the doctor gave me put my sexual drive to nothing. I am 25, and I have a difficult getting hard. I can be in the middle of masterbating and my dick will "lose interest". It is not a problem when I am single. But the last 2 girls I have dated, I did not have sex with --- looking back, not a bad thing. Now I am dating a girl that I want to have sex with and I am not sexually interested, I can get half cocked, but not fully hard since I have been on medication. It took me a lot of different sleeping pills before I could sleep. The one that worked first was clonazepam. I was on it for a couple of years, I then moved to another state and a new doctor said that I needed to get off of it. Now I am taking trazodone for sleep and the doctor has given me fluoxetine generic prozac for anxiety. My question is how can I get sexually interested again? What drugs are causing this problem? Is there another drug I can switch to, to get sexually interested again, or should I start taking viagra? Thanks!

Hello,

It may be the combination of medication. Surprisingly enough, one of the size effects of Trazodone is increaed libido.

I would suggest making an appointment with a urologist to assure that there aren't any other indications for your ED.

Sleep is important, although my husband is twice your age, he began to suffer from insomnia in his late teens. He took all sorts of medications, and finally his doctor advised him to go to a sleep clinic for evaluation because he had been on Dalmane far too many years. After the sleep study, he gained relief. He was just recently switched to Lunesta, but had tried Ambien. Once, he came off the antidepressants, he felt a lot better.

Discuss the medications with your doctor and perhaps try Ambien or Lunesta and see if it helps.

I tried both ambien and lunesta --- I was dizzy all day. I actually wanted to die when I was on both. I forgot to mention, I also take nazal spray, could that have an effect of ed.

I checked for the nasal spray and ED is not a side effect.

I believe it is the combination of the Prozac and Traxzodone.

By going to the urologist, you can assure that everything is medically sound. By discussing the problem with the doctor, it may be determined that you perhaps Cialis would be appropriate. Cialis is a better choice in some men as it allows spontaniety of a 36 hour time frame.

I would also discuss the possibility of changing the Prozac to something else to treat your anxziety and see if that makes any difference.
