There are one or two filters on your CPAP machine. One would be foam (washable with mild soap and water) and the other paper. They are always on the back of the machine. There should be a little door that will open to allow you to place the filter in. It will need to be flat to allow the door to shut properly. If you are unable to figure this out you have other options -

1 - you can call the home care company through which you obtained the machine

2 - you can call the sleep lab through which the machine was ordered

3 - you can either call or find the instructions online from the company that made the machine.

Feel free to communicate with me more if I can be of further assistance!

Reply to Judy's Post: is it better to put the paper filter in with the diamond mesh facing outward or in toward the cpap? does it not matter or depend on the patient and instructions for specific patient and cpap? does one remove the diamond mesh, which is removable? does it matter if the paper filter goes in with the little tab toward the top of the machine or the bottom? what's the best, fastest way to get online instructions from the manufacturer on this specific accessory, the paper filter?

The best is to call the home care company or the facility that prescribed the CPAP - but if you would rather I assist - I will do my best! Could you tell me the manufacturer of your machine? In the meantime I will try to find out myself.

Is this a Remstar Plus CPAP?
Who is your supplier of the machine? Home care company?

I found some paper filters that may fit your machine and the reviews say the cost is 1/3 of what the home care companies and others charge!

Here is an [color-green]exceprt from the site at cpap.com:

"In what order do I insert the filters? If both the foam and paper filters are used, the paper filter is inserted first with the smooth side against the machine and the soft, fuzzy side facing out. The tab is folded out for easy removal. The foam filter is placed on the outside to remove the larger dirt particles first."
