My husband has serious toe fungus on his great toe. It looks awful. Have tried teatree oil, various home remedies w/ no results. He also has atheletes foot so prone to these problems. I said that smoking doesn't help because circulation compromised and fungus gets established? He doesn't believe that one. Any help would be greatly appreciated - no advertisements for untried products though.

Okay you are saying that the cure is something he must take internally for 6 months? Topical treatments don't work? Is the medication safe? He doesn't have any health issues other than maybe slightly high cholesterol and long smoking history. What causes this fungus from getting started in the first place anyway?

Hi

Topical treatments can be effective but only if a small portion of the nail is involved.

Yes - he needs to take the treatment until an entire new and healthy nail has grown in.

Terbinfine is perfectly safe - it is certainly the most often prescribed oral anti-fungal.
