yes there are various ways that the person can "kick" but all require FIRST a strong motivation to do so.

Drugs that assist with quiting smoking include nicotine patches and wellbutrin.

They are both VERY effective at helping the motivated smoker end their addiction.

Here is a reliable link.

http://www.cancer.org/docroot/PED/content/PED_10_13X_Guide_for_Quitting_Smoking.asp?sitearea=PED

Halfway down the page is a secction entitled: "Help with physical addiciton"

But the psychological addiction (also in that link) can be just as bad.

Our daughter is demented due to prescription drug mixed with alcohol abuse. The nicotine addiction complicates her care. Is there hope for her?

The key to fight smoking addiction is the motivation to quit. You really did not give me any information that wasn't common knowledge. The medical profession needs to go past that to help the person who smokes and is not cognitive.

If her dementia interferes with her ability to choose to quit then there are really no options unless she has legally been declared incompetent in which case her guardian could simply refuse (with the aid of pharmacological assistance to minimize withdrawal symptoms) to provide cigarettes or allow access to them.

Thanks for the ACCEPT.

And a BONUS is always appreciated.
