first, i have no insurance. I dont go to the drs unless im on deathrow, and i kmow its wrong, but with no insurance, i dont like using the system. being a single mother, my boys come first. well anyway,i wnt skating, ice skating, that is, on Saturday around, say around 200pm. I had fallen, on my bottom. The pain wasnt so bad at first, but now its tuesday morining at about 430 am, and im going crasy. i cant sit, sleep, have a bowel movement. I understand that if i broke or chipped the tail bone, not mufh can be done about it. what i am asking is, could i have possibley done anyother damage, due to the fact that i have had 3 previous back surgeries in the past, and have been told that i could use laser surgery to correct some of whats going on back there to begin with, but no money, so no surgery, and so far i have lived with the once in awhile discomfort, but this pain, is everytime i move, cough, or anything. if its my tailbone, do u have any answers to help make it more comfortable?

Not being able to have a bowel movement or to void is always a medical emergency that means you go to emergency room right away. If these symptoms are related to injury to nerves and if that injury is not corrected in a timely manner you can end up being paralyzed.

The reason your pain was not bad initially and got worse later on is because of the way your body responds to injury. You body responds to injury with infammation and it takes time for your body to respond to injury. Usually pain gets worse within 12-24 hours after the injury as inflammation at the site increases. Inflammation pushes on surrounding tissue and nerves the reason pain gets worse, and the reason antiinflammatories work the best because they decrease inflammation.

Yes, if you had back surgeries in the past or even back problems, there is a chance of reinjury. If you are able to void and have bowel movement, then I would treat it as acute pain. I would use over the counter pain medications ( preferably antiinflammatories), rest, cold compresses for 48 hours then after warm compresses, and you should start seeing improvement in pain within 24-48 hours. If your pain keeps getting worse and has not improved within 72 hours you may need stronger pain medications. Acute pain usually significantly improves within 2 weeks and almost resolves within a month. If pain keeps getting worse instead of improving within a week, you may have reinjured yourself and may need diagnostic tests to be done such as X-ray to see of there is fracture, or MRI to check if there is back injury or reinjury.

However, if your pain is severe and medications are not effective, I would see a doctor and have him/her at least do X-ray to make sure there is no fracture. X-rays are much cheaper than MRIs.
