I am looking for an orthopedic surgeon in the Tidewater VA area that has experience treating arthrofibrosis. My wife (48 years old)had total knee replacement in June, 2005. Severe scar tissue built up and she had arthroscopic surgery to remove the scar tissue in march of 2006. Her scar tissue has returned with a vengence and now her patella has pulled downward and she is in a constant state of pain and can hardly walk. Her OS wants to do surgery again (now!). Through my own research I have found her condition to be referred to as "Arthrofibrosis". Although a good OS, her doctor has NEVER used this term & I feel he has little experience in this area. Her PT was lackluster to say the least. She never had MUA nor was a CPM machine EVER used in her case. She is fearful this will be a never ending recurring event with her scar tissue. We need help with a doctor that can properly treat her Arthrofibrosis and keenly follow up with aggressive PT specially tailored to treat her arthrofibrosis. I strongly feel that had her 2nd surgery (arthroscopic)been properly followed up with proper PT she would not be in the predicament she is now in!! We need help!! Thanks!!
                    Respectfully,
                    B M Bolding

Hi Customer (name blocked for privacy). Dr. April here. I am a physical medicine specialist. My recommendation is to see someone from my specialty first and have a thorough evaluation by someone who does aggressive conservative treatment for arthrofibrosis and also can address pain issues. I work closely with many orthopedic surgeons and I am familiar with which ones can deal with particular problems such as yours. If you find a physical medicine specialist in the Tidewater area they can help treat the problem and refer you to an orthopedic surgeon in your area who deals with arthrofibrosis.
