yesterday I had lid surgery to treat drooping lids. There was normal swelling. I am to use bactracin on the sutures 2x daily and in the eye itself before bed. I''m to take tylenol #3 for headache (plates were inserted near my eyebrows to prevent recurrence). Today the swelling of my forehead has dissipated and my eyes themselves are a bit clearer, however the bags below my eyes are full blown and red. I put cool compress (ice water) on them 2 hours ago. They are now threatening to swell my eyes shut. Any idea what to do? Thank you

I do not have intense pain or fever. The color is not cark - it's simply swollen and reddish, but not like an eye of a raccoon. Thank you

Hello

The swelling which you are having is collection of body fluid and blood from your operation site that is the upper lid and the forehead into the lower eye bag.

As these two areas are connected to each other its but natural for the blood mixed fluid to seep to these bags because of gravity from the upper lid.

It is common finding after this kind of surgery or after any trauma to the forehead to have a collection in these areas. This swelling is self limiting one and resolves of its own without treatment gradually.

If it goes on increasing or becomes too much uncomfortable you should seek the help of your surgeon less there may be a continuous small bleeding vessel.

Hope this alleviates your anxiety.
