Barbara, hope you are out there. Just to let you know after I quit worrying about my stomach..everything clamed down and got back to normal.. I am writing, though, about a visit I had to the doctors about traces of blood in my urine..All my tests were fine but she did say I have a "double kidney" which might cause the slight hematuria. What is a double kidney?

I am so glad your stomach is now better. Thanks for letting me know.

About the double or duplex kidney: This means that you have more than the usual one collecting system in one of your kidneys. Your doctor knows that and knows to be aware of any concerns as related to your kidneys. Apparently she/he feels that the blood in your urine may come from your double kidney and is not overly concerned. At this time I would not be ovverly concerned either.

Take care.

Double Kidney

Duplication anomalies: Supernumerary collecting systems may be unilateral or bilateral and may involve the renal pelvis and ureters (accessory renal pelvis, double or triple pelvis and ureter), calyx, or ureteral orifice. Duplex kidney (double kidney) consists of a single renal mass with more than one collecting system. An increased risk for ureteral ectopy with or without ureterocele exists in duplex systems; management depends on the anatomy and function of each separately drained segment. Surgery may be necessary to correct obstruction or vesicoureteral reflux.
