Yes I have had 2 of the world top ortho surgeons look at me and another 1 that studied under one of the above. My left leg was so deep it took 9 to 10 rolls of guaze to pack it and all they did was hold it above the wound and let it unravel, it mwas horrible acid baths wveryday, but now nobody will give me an direct answer about anything I just wish when I died I hadn't been brought back, I feel like a crippled up old hag, i AM REALLY at my wits ends. It's kind of hard when no one will give you an answer

I am sorry to hear that no one is giving you a proper answer...
every one deserves a patient hearing and a proper reply. I feel that given your case you may need an amputation.. however till you get a proper reply, I would strongly urge you to keep looking for answers...
All the best

Dear Mama Sqauw,
the choice would probably be a high amputation close to the hip joint, however as I said that it would be difficult to be precise without actually seeing you and the X rays.
Removing the rod and leaving the rest of the mess may lead to a chance of persistent pain and possibility of infection. If the limb is completely useless with NO chance of possible recovery of function (& this has to be assessed on site, not online) then it may be a better option to take it out and use a comfortable prosthesis,

Maybe you can RELIST, and ask someone else to help you out...
It is alright, an ACCEPT is nice ... but not always needed, I am actually disappointed that I could not help you out. I guess you need to hear a different answer, even though this is probably the correct answer...
A) Whether amputation is needed?
Ans: Probably
B) Why?
ANs: Because otherwise you will have more pain and infections
C) Site of amputation?
Ans: High near hip joint
D) Problems with letting the leg remian
Ans: Infections, pain and inability to attain functionality
All the best, and no problem about the accept,
Regards

Dear Customer (name blocked for privacy),
thanks for writing back.
I am aware that life is NOT fair, and it has treated you badly, for no fault of yours.
To answer your specific queries:
A) Sedation for surgery
Ans: If it was a problem before, try to talk to the anesthetist, maybe they can try a different emdicine/ give a stronger pre-anesthetic to help you out.

B) Phantom pain
Ans: Not every one gets it after amputation, the severity is generally lesser than what you have now, and it generally easier to manage too. There are techniques other than painkillers to manage it too!

Do let me know if you have more questions,

regards

Dr. Gupta

I know you don't know me from Adam and I am sorry for not accepting your answer.Truth is I really didn't think you would be qable to come up with something I haven't been told before. I hate to sound like I am full of self pity because I'm not. Right now I am at the stage w/L. leg constantly locking up on me and the pain almost will put me to my knee, I know life isn't fair, but damn my marriage of 16 yrs. huh- degrading that I can't and won't let him see the ugly scars (don't take me wrong he was there 24-7 for a whole year and every time hosp. after that and still here.) I hate myself and for SEX what is that just like Madona sings "Like A Virgin) I guess I was hoping for a miracle, THANKS

As I said before, an ACCEPT is a nice gesture, nothing less or more that that. It is more disappointing that you were unable to benefit from an interaction with me. I feel the reason is that you are not really looking for a particular reply. You are angry, hurt, scared and insecure. Of course you ahve every reason to be all of those things.... but the real question is how do you continue with your life from here?
Asking medical questions whose answer are rarely going to differ between various experts (and you claim to have seen the leading orthpedicians) is probably not the answer. You know what is the right choice (medically speaking) but probably are afraid to make it.
I feel that you are feeling very alone now, please involve other people like your husband and kids in your life, dont feel afraid to show some signs of dependance. I know it is probably very difficult for an independent person like yourself... but life is full of changes, some are for the better, and others are not so obviously for the good. Religion may help you understand your position better too. A support group and maybe some counselling would help you feel less better, and I think your mental health is as much of an issue here as your physical health.

As I said before I would like to help you, and I hope that you consider accepting my reply, but even if you dont and you consider that I have helped, that would make me happy,Images available only to Customers.
