I am having brain surgery on the 13th--after an MRI taken to see if the tumor had grown there is a report saying that I also have "Focal prominence of a sulcus at the medialaspect of the high left frontal lobe which could be an underlying benign arachnoid cyst" What is this ? Should I be worried ? Will it have to be taken care of in the future ? What does the Frontal Lobe do ?

Hi,
Arachnoid cysts are benign lesions. These cysts are filled with cerebrospinal fluid which is present in the brain tissue. These cysts per say donot cause much problem. Occasinally they can cause headache, seizures etc. They are mostly present individually, but can be seen in some cases along with a brain tumor. If you are going to be operated for your tumor, then most probably the cyst will also be removed. They are per say nothing to worry about. For more information read here..

As far as the function of frontal lobe is concerned it is associated with reasoning, planning, parts of speech, movement, emotions, and problem solving.

I would advise you to relax regarding the arachnoid cyst. All the best for your surgery!

Hi Again-YesI am having brain Surgery I am having an Acoustic Neuroma Removed--It is also on the left side--Thank you very much for your answer-I am not going to worry now--at least not about that.I have Short Term Memory Loss with no explanation--I was kind of hoping the left lobe cyst was responsible and I would at last know why I have it.
