Question

My husband had hip-replacement on the 4th of April ...

Sent to Health Experts May 03, 2006 10:46 a.m.

My husband had hip-replacement on the 4th of April when he went back two weeks later for check-up and staple removal everything was fine, Doctor took him off of Warfarin. On the 29th of April I had to call an amblance to take my husband to the ER he had multible blood clots above the knee, they sent him home same day and perscribed 120mg of Lovenox to be injected once a day and to see his doctor in a few days. Question :He can't get up the pain is to great and if he could would'nt it be harmful to him with having the blood clots? Should he be laying down all the time or should I try to get him to sit in a lounge chair? Because of the Hip Replacement he still can't put any pressure on that leg.

REPLIED Check Mark

is he having physical therapy?

laying down too much is not good

he needs to move around as much as possible to help prevent the blood clots. have they re-x-rayed the hip just to make sure everything is ok? Ask him if the pain seems to be coming from the bone, joint , or muscular. he should try to move around as much as he can.

1. ask them to x ray it. also ask for an MRI ( just to make sure there is not something going unnoticed. if everything is ok you will have peace of mind that he is not damaging anything and if something is wrong they can detect it and take measures to fix the problem so it won't get worse.

2. ask about physical therapy

I really think they nee to make sure something didn't move out of place since April 4th. you said 2 weeks later he was fine. I'm looking here....warfarin is a blood thinner. they took him off that the 28th abt. the 29th he had blood clots and you had to call an ambulance. lovenox is a blood thinner and it stops the blood from coagulating also. He should be getting up to help prevent blood clots but if it is unbearable that just does not sound right. Please explain to the medical facility that his pain is bad and you want them to check to make sure everything is in tack and in place.
