I had hip surgery ( due to broke bone) about 16 years ...

I had hip surgery ( due to broke bone) about 16 years ago. They put in and took out 5 screws and a plate. My question is: In the past week that hip is causesing me a lot of pain. This pain is not like the normal artheritis pain. Could this be serious?
