I have fever, and severe pain in the neck region and ...

I have fever, and severe pain in the neck region and left ear area. My throat is also getting sore. Antibiotics (z-pack, levoqyne) haven't helped. My ears are clear.The doctor sent me for a ct scan, he is worried about a sinus abscess...what is that? Symptoms? treatments?
any clue could help
