the accident that i was in 3 yrs ago and has left me an invalid.......used to run all day and half the nite and now bedtime is 1900......so my life has changed considerably.......
i was intubated and after 9 months in hospital and rehabs i went home with permenant trache......all was fine for 1st year and then i noticed i was becoming more and more short of breath after going to all my docs and they all blamed it on my lungs due to past smoking i went to one who examined me and folded his arms and told me my lungs were fine and healthy BUT what was wrong was.....what held up the trache is cartlidge
....not bone and from the trauma of accident and freq intubations these cartlidge were damaged and they are now disintergrating......and they are becoming like mush......
they are along with my trache sliding down toward theopening of my lungs closing the holes to inflating my lungs...........which in turn is the reason i am soooo short of breath
.......well.......what lousy news.......they know of nothing that can help the SOB i am having.........prognosis is poor..........has anyone where you are ever heard of this and is there anything that can be done..................this obviously is more than a 10.00 question and you will not be forgotten........thank you so much for your time

If you were smoker some years before the accident you may have had Emphysema or Chronic Bronchitis before the accident and that can cause SOB. I suggest to you to see a Thoracic surgeon to find out if the frequent intubation may have caused your SOB and if there is anything can be done about it. Some patients with Emphysema and Chronic bronchitis are candidate for lung reduction surgery and some people with lung failure are candidate for lung transplant .
